Elk Grove police will be conducting a sobriety checkpoint at an undisclosed location in the city from 8 p.m. Friday to 2 p.m. Saturday.
Officers will stop vehicle drivers at the checkpoint in an effort to get impaired and unlicensed drivers off the road, said Officer Christopher Trim, Elk Grove police spokesman.
Educational materials will be given to motorists with information on the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
The public is encouraged to call the Elk Grove Police Department at (916) 714-5111 or 911 if a suspected impaired driver is observed.
Funding for the sobriety checkpoint came from a federal grant for raising public awareness about designating a sober driver.
