Prep Blog: Josiah Turner to play for Hungarian pro basketball team

Published: Thursday, Aug. 23, 2012 - 4:00 pm

The next stop in Josiah Turner's basketball odyssey will be Europe.

The former Sacramento High and University of Arizona guard has signed with the Hungarian team Albacomp.

After switching from Sacramento High to Quality Education Academy in Winston Salem, N.C., midway in his senior season, Turner had a tumultuous freshman year at Arizona last winter.

He started 17 games and averaged 6.8 points per game but was twice suspended during the season for "violations of team policy"; announced he was leaving the school; was arrested on suspicion of extreme DUI; and then said he was transferring to Southern Methodist University to play for new coach Larry Brown.

Albacomp, which announced Turner's signing on its web-site, plays in the Hungarian League and has finished in second place the last two seasons.

Turner's DUI case will resume on Sept. 18 in Pima County Justice Court. His attorney, Jeffrey Rogers, told the Arizona Daily Star that he is in negotiations for a plea agreement.
