The state has axed 7,112 vehicles from its inventory since Gov. Jerry Brown ordered the reductions last year, according to the Department of General Services.
Agencies also ended take-home vehicle privileges for more than 3,200 employees, nearly half the number of all so-called "home storage use permits" issued in January 2011 when Brown mandated the cuts to save money.
The reductions include 4,204 passenger cars and light-duty trucks, General Services said, saving an estimated $12.6 million annually in operating and depreciation costs.
