Sacramento County has unveiled a new website to highlight issues affecting the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta and its residents.
The website emerges from growing recognition that Sacramento County is in the cross hairs of a major new water infrastructure project.
Called the Bay Delta Conservation Plan, the proposal by the state would divert a portion of the Sacramento River's flow into two giant tunnels. That water would be delivered to water utilities across the state that currently divert water from the south Delta, considered a more problematic location.
Three massive pumping stations to serve the tunnels – and requisite infrastructure such as roads, power stations and a massive forebay – would all be in Sacramento County's portion of the Delta.
County officials are on record opposing the project, a stance prominently described on the new website: www.sacramentoriverdelta .net. The website also serves as a portal for information about flood insurance requirements, levee projects, relevant legislation and a calendar for Delta-centric events.
