A kitten who survived a three-week ocean voyage from China to California in a storage container without food or water has a new home.
Los Angeles County animal control officials said Friday that a Redondo Beach family has adopted the kitten, now about 5 months old, following its monthlong stay in an animal hospital.
The cat, named Ni Hao - Chinese for "hello," - was discovered near death in a shipping container July 11. He couldn't walk, see, or make sounds.
An officer said he had shallow breathing and was curled up with his eyes shut.
Despite medical care, Ni Hao is "still a bit wobbly" and "may end up being a special needs kitty for life," said animal control official Aaron Reyes.
