The Sacramento City Council will be asked today to officially add two landmarks to the Sacramento Register of Historic and Cultural Resources.
If the council approves, the Old City Cemetery at 1000 Broadway will be listed as a historic district. The 32-acre cemetery was established in 1849. It remains an active burial ground and, according to historic nomination documents, it "continues to reflect … historic functions as much of its 19th-century appearance, design, features and land-use remains intact."
Also listed for landmark designation is Shiloh Baptist Church at 3552 Seventh Ave. Construction of the building, designed by James C. Dodd, was started in 1958 and completed in 1963.
The church is an early example of mid-century modern architecture, city officials said.
