  • THE SACRAMENTO BEE 150 YEAR ANNIVERSARY
    Firemen and Police officers rescue survivors of the Farrell's Ice Cream Parlor air accident on September 24, 1972. Twenty-two people died when an old war jet failed to take off from runway 12-30 at Executive Aiport during an air show and crashed into Farrell's Ice Cream Parlor at 4:25 p.m. Twelve of the victims were children. Nine members of one family died. Two victims were a husband and wife in their car on Freeport Boulevard when the car ricocheted off the berm next to Freeport Boulevard. A 23rd person was hit and killed by a car minutes later as she ran toward the ice cream parlor, thinking wrongly that her grandchildren were inside. Farrell's never reopened.
