Do you remember the Farrell's crash of 1972?

On Sept. 24, 1972, an old war jet failed on takeoff from Sacramento's Executive Airport during an air show. It crashed into Farrell's Ice Cream Parlor on Freeport Boulevard, killing 22 people. Were you in Sacramento on that day? What do you remember? What stories have you been told about that day?

Joseph Vandiver: My family had just left...they were in the parking lot.....very sad

Karen Emery: I was a junior in high school when this happened. It was shocking. We all used to go to Farrell's for ice cream.

Sheron Harder: Some of my family had just left there also. Thank goodness. What a horrible day :(

Craig Dvta: I remember that as it was one of our favorite place for sundae ice cream . I was only 7 yrs old

Tammy Gavin: i still can remember this i was 5 yrs old when this happened

Felipe Bolivar: This event is what made Mort Friedman one of the Best Lawyers in California. really sad event that happened in Sacramento. Did not live there, but I felt the effects while I was living there.

George Young: Let me do some digging. I snuck onto the scene right after the crash and took some photos. I hope I can find them.

Laura Schield Webster: Too young to remember but still know the majority of the story. Sorry that that building has been cursed all these years. Sad that no stores or restaurants were able to survive in that building.

Latecia Breeden: I was too young 3 yrs old, but I my mother would tell us about the incident when I got a little older. Leatherbys ice cream moved into that spot in the 80's and there was a big deal made out of it.....

Ellen La Scola: I remember when that happened, knew several one friend that died: The Crossroads shopping center never thrived after that. A very grim and tragic day.

Phillip Chew: I remember that disaster also. We lived down the street (35th Ave)from Farrels.

Valgene Orlando: I remember this. We used to go there for ice cream and my boss's daughter was killed in the crash...

Kyle Tucker: My grandfather was mentioned in this article. He was the Captain for the Sacramento Fire Department and was one of the firefighters who went in to rescue people who were still inside after the plane crashed into the building. RIP Fred Tucker

Remy Emmanuel: this was the year we just move here from San Francisco. I remembered

Brian W. Tolley: My mom was going to take us there that day but something came up and we didn't go.

Christina Borgman: I was only 2 mos. old, but my Dad was there. I don't think he's been to an air show since.

Dave Bradford: Me, my sis and my mother were there that day.I just remember a loud boom and a kid screaming in my ear! Crazy
