Night Life: Happy Hour at Tokyo Fro's

Published: Friday, Sep. 7, 2012 - 12:00 am | Page 32TICKET

Tokyo Fro's

2224 Fair Oaks Blvd., Sacramento, (916) 648-1115

www.tokyofros.com

Hours: 11:30 a.m.-midnight Tuesday, Thursday through Saturday, 11:30 a.m.-10 p.m. Sunday, Monday, and Wednesday

Happy hour: 4-6 p.m. Monday through Saturday, 5 p.m.-close Sunday

The real steal: Select from half-off cocktails and draft beers, $3 sake bombs, $5 appetizers and $5 and $8 rolls. There is a mandatory one-drink minimum per person, but the drink does not have to be alcoholic. You can get a soda or hot tea instead.

Munch on an appetizer such as crab-stuffed wontons or gyoza, or a spicy tuna or Hawaii roll, for $5 each. The Godzilla or Rice Rice Baby rolls are $8.

The vibe: This laid-back restaurant has a sushi bar and an alcohol bar against the back wall. Multiple flat-screen TVs play in the background. Stone-topped tables match the stone-topped bar.

The exposed kitchen behind the sushi bar adds to the urban feel of the place, while anime (Japanese animation) photos add a fun touch.

Hanging lamps with colored light bulbs enhance the sense of fun. A green fish dangles from the restaurant's ceiling, reminding diners why they are here.

Signature drinks: The $3 sake bomb is a house favorite. This beer cocktail is suitable for chugging contests with friends or to simply enjoy with your favorite sushi roll.

The $3.50 White Gummy Bear also is a popular choice. Made with Stoli Vanil vodka, peach schnapps, sweet and sour and a splash of Sprite, this drink refreshes.

Something extra: On Monday and Thursday nights you can participate in trivia contests, popular events at Tokyo Fro's. Happy-hour prices continue, and you can play to win prizes.

There are other deals that change daily. They are listed on the chalkboard menu at the bar.
