The California Highway Patrol has identified the woman who died in a collision in the Foothill Farms area Wednesday night as 19-year-old Tayler Hutchins of Sacramento.
According to a CHP news release, Hutchins was an unlicensed driver.
The collision occurred about 7:30 p.m. as Hutchins was driving a white 1991 Lexus LS400 eastbound on Auburn Boulevard at Garfield Avenue.
A witness told officers that the Lexus was stopped in the right lane for a red traffic signal when a silver 2004 BMW 300 series approached the rear of the Lexus. For some reason, Hutchins began yelling at the male driver of the BMW.
When the traffic signal turned green, the Lexus began to accelerate, but after a short distance, Hutchins applied the brakes, then accelerated and hit the brakes, repeating this several times, witnesses said.
The BMW attempted to move to the left lane to pass the Lexus, but Hutchins steered her vehicle to the left, attempting to block the BMW from passing. The BMW then attempted to use the two-way left-turn lane to pass, but Hutchins again steered to the left to block the vehicle.
This time, she lost control of the vehicle and traveled into a westbound lane, where the passenger side of the Lexus was struck by a 1991 gray Mercedes 190E. The Lexus overturned and came to rest on its wheels in a parking lot just west of Rosebud Lane.
The 23-year-old driver of the Mercedes and her 4-year-old son were transported to UC Davis Medical Center with minor injuries. Hutchins was taken to Mercy San Juan Medical Center, where she died of her injuries.
CHP investigators are interviewing witnesses. Investigators are asking the male driver of the BMW, who is a key witness, to contact the CHP to provide a statement regarding Hutchins' actions before the collision.
