A wildfire near the hairpin turn where Highway 193 meets Rock Creek Road has burned 45 acres north of Placerville and is 60 percent contained, a battalion chief for the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection said Sunday.
Battalion Chief Julie Hutchinson said no structures were threatened in the Rock fire, which started shortly before 5:30 p.m. Saturday and has burned in a northerly direction. The fire has burned mainly brush land north of Placerville and the Chili Bar Reservoir, and south of Georgetown.
"We were able to stop the forward rate of spread so there were no homes or anything threatened," Hutchinson said.
The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
Teri Mizuhara, spokeswoman for the Amador-El Dorado Unit of CalFire, said about 200 firefighters from CalFire, the U.S. Forest Service, El Dorado County, Garden Valley and Georgetown would remain on the fire line today.
