Re "Romney defends views amid furor" (Page A1, Sept. 19): The Bee's statistics on who pays taxes and who does not were fascinating. Isn't it interesting that the majority of payers live in the blue states while the majority of non-payers live in red states?.
This jibes with recent statistics that show the blue states pay more tax to the federal government than the red states. The red states receive more federal aid, far exceeding the amount of tax they send to Washington. Connecticut is subsidizing Texas!
The Republicans' red state core, therefore, is made up of people who don't pay taxes and receive large amounts of federal aid.
Meantime, President Obama has overseen the biggest four-year Wall Street resurgence in our history. Why would anyone who owns stock vote against him?
