Sacramento area weather: Hot today - and very hot through Tuesday

Published: Friday, Sep. 28, 2012 - 7:00 am

Sacramento seems assured to break the record of 24 days of 90-degree weather or above for a September on Saturday.

It's going to be hot today, hot Saturday and really hot Sunday through Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.

Today the city is expected to tie the record of 24 days of 90-degree or hotter for a September, a mark set in 1974. The high today is expected to be 92 degrees.

The area is under the influence of a high pressure system, which has produced an inordinate amount of heat this month. The same high pressure system may give Sacramento the record on Saturday when 95 degrees is forecast.

Then, on Sunday, look for September's only 100-degree reading.

The detailed, 7-day NWS forecast for the Sacramento region:

Today: Sunny, with a high near 92. Light and variable wind becoming west southwest around 6 mph in the morning.

Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 58. South southeast wind 5 to 9 mph.

Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 95. Calm wind becoming west around 5 mph in the afternoon.

Saturday night: Clear, with a low around 60. West northwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.

Sunday: Sunny and hot, with a high near 100. Calm wind becoming northwest around 5 mph in the afternoon.

Sunday night: Clear, with a low around 62.

Monday: Sunny and hot, with a high near 100.

Monday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 61.

Tuesday: Sunny and hot, with a high near 100.

Tuesday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 62.
