Home prices in the four-county Sacramento region rose in August by 6.3 percent from the same period a year ago and increased 1.5 percent from July to August, real-estate tracking firm CoreLogic reported Tuesday.
Excluding distressed sales, which make up about half the market, home prices rose 8.2 percent in August compared with August 2011 and increased by 2.9 percent in August 2012 compared with July 2012, the firm said.
The continuing rise in area home prices comes amid tight inventory and historically low interest rates.
It mirrors a national increase of 4.6 percent in August compared with August 2011. That change represents the biggest year-over-year increase since July 2006, during the waning days of the housing boom, CoreLogic said.
