Sunsets are always filled with anticipation. A well-known photographer says that about ten percent actually work out. One way I try to salvage a sunset is to use a graduated neutral density filter. By exposing for the foreground the brighter top half of the photo is usually washed out. The graduated neutral density filter holds back the top half by bringing that density equal to the bottom half. I used a 3-stop graduated neutral density on this Bishop sunset. 040
