Re "Coach is fired at Rio Americano" (Sports, Oct. 3): Without reviewing details of the Rio Americano High School football controversy, one football player had the opportunity to go to a baseball event that had potential for his career. The local policy is that a player cannot miss a game, unless ill. The meeting this past Monday night, which included the principal, the coaching staff, parents and players, was acrimonious; at least one father was verbally abusive to the coaching staff.
In analyzing the situation, I put the entire responsibility on the shoulders of the San Juan School District Board that should have had policies to avoid putting anyone -- coaches, school administrators, parents and players alike -- in a difficult position. This problem should not been handled at the local level and the ugly situation could have been prevented. As a taxpayer, I expect fair and just policies from the top. We now have a lose-lose situation.

• Do not use the commenting system for advertising. That's spam and it isn't allowed.
• Don't use all capital letters. That's akin to yelling and not appreciated by the audience.
• Don't flag other users' comments just because you don't agree with their point of view. Please only flag comments that violate these guidelines.
