Re "Coach is fired at Rio Americano" (Sports, Oct. 3): It's shocking to find the principal of Rio Americano High School did not support his coach.
The reason given was the coach failed to have a written procedure that would have addressed the issue of a player wanting a day off. It is a given that players will be at all games unless there's illness, a death in the family or a family emergency. That's pretty much universally understood in high school athletics.
Perhaps more importantly one must ask: Is it the responsibility of the coach to make sure there is a procedure in place or is it the responsibility of the principal? No, it isn't a rhetorical question.
Therefore, one must wonder if the principal will be held accountable for his failure to ensure a procedure was in place. Where does the buck stop?
