Gardeners and bargain hunters can say one last goodbye to the landmark Capital Nursery during an open house and closing day sale Sunday.
From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., the 76-year-old Sacramento nursery at 4700 Freeport Blvd. will welcome customers for one last time. The plants are pretty much gone, but for sale will be furniture, office equipment, tools, spare parts, file cabinets, typewriters and other remainders of the longtime business.
All sales will be cash and carry only, according to general manager Carr McClendon.
Hit hard by a down economy and a changing industry, Capital consolidated its business in its two remaining locations. Capital's landscape division relocated to its Elk Grove nursery. Capital also still has a nursery in Citrus Heights.
