Elk Grove residents will have an opportunity to chat with a police officer over coffee Thursday morning.

Officers from the Elk Grove Police Department's Problem Oriented Policing Unit will be available to answer questions from 7 to 9 a.m. at two Starbucks coffee shops: 8869 Bond Road and 2300 Longport Court.

The Coffee With a Cop program is intended to strengthen the partnership between the Police Department and the community it serves.

"We believe that this type of open dialog plays a critical role in establishing a true partnership between the community and the Police Department," Chief Robert Lehner said in a written statement.

Residents are encouraged to ask specific or general questions related to their neighborhood.

For more information, call Denise Costello, crime prevention specialist, at (916) 478-8117, or Sgt. James Fuller of the Problem Oriented Police Unit at (916) 627-3727.

Additional Coffee With a Cop dates and locations will be posted on the Elk Grove Police Department's website, www.elkgrovepd.org.
