Sacramento weather looking warmer, drier for the weekend

A few raindrops fell in Sacramento this morning as low cloud cover blanketed the valley.

Clouds are expected to persist until late morning, giving way to a sunny afternoon. The high today in downtown Sacramento is expected to be around 70 degrees, which a good 10 degrees below normal for Oct. 11.

The weekend looks like it will be warmer and drier. A warm-up is forecast, reaching the high 80s next week.

The detailed, 7-day forecast for the Sacramento region:

Today: Mostly sunny, with a high near 70. South southeast wind around 6 mph.

Tonight: Partly cloudy, with a low around 54. Southwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.

Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 78. Calm wind becoming northwest 5 to 8 mph in the afternoon.

Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 56. North northwest wind around 5 mph becoming light and variable in the evening.

Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 83. Calm wind becoming west southwest around 5 mph in the afternoon.

Sunday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 56.

Monday: Partly sunny, with a high near 83.

Monday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 57.

Tuesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 85.

Tuesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 57.

Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 87.

Wednesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 57.

Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 87.
