The Sacramento coroner's office identified the victim of a Friday morning head-on collision in south Sacramento County as Benjamin Hernandez De La Cruz, 32, of Sacramento.
He was driving south on Interstate 5 near Twin Cities Road about 6:20 a.m. when his car crossed over the center median, spun out of control and in to the path of another car traveling northbound on the freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The driver of the northbound car, a 35-year-old Walnut Grove woman, could not avoid the collision, according to the CHP. Both cars careened off the road and onto the freeway shoulder.
De La Cruz was declared dead at the scene. The other driver was transported to a hospital with minor to moderate injuries.
