With the sun setting to the west, Silver Lake only has soft ambient light. The difference in light values between the lake and sun illuminated clouds is about six exposure stops. Only HDR will bring all these light levels into one exposure. Here I used the in-camera HDR processing capabilities of the Canon 5D Mark III camera show me the HDR potential in the field.
