A hot, windy day is in the forecast today, prompting a warning of increased wildland fire danger.
The threat of autumn fires to the north state comes as high pressure over the west coast produces sunny skies and warming temperatures today in Sacramento. North winds are expected to blow in the Sacramento Valley, bringing increased fire danger through early Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.
Cooler temperatures are expected Friday as the upper level high pressure starts to weaken, according to forecasters.
The NWS forecast for the next 7 days in the Sacramento region:
Today: Sunny, with a high near 89. North northwest wind 10 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph.
: Tonight Clear, with a low around 54. Northwest wind 5 to 7 mph.
: Thursday Sunny, with a high near 89. North wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the afternoon.
Thursday: Night Clear, with a low around 56. South wind around 5 mph.
Friday: Sunny, with a high near 84. Light and variable wind becoming west southwest around 5 mph in the afternoon.
Friday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 56.
Saturday:Mostly sunny, with a high near 78.
Saturday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 52.
Sunday: Partly sunny, with a high near 72.
Sunday night: A slight chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 49.
Monday: A slight chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 70.
Monday night: A chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 53.
Tuesday: A chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 70.
