Files on five of the 13 Sacramento-area Boy Scout leaders suspected of child abuse became available Friday and they indicate that each of them had been investigated by law enforcement.
The files are part of a trove of secret information released Thursday by the Boy Scouts of America, which had kept information for decades on leaders suspected of inappropriate behavior with youngsters.
The files, released after a court battle, were compiled and released by Portland attorney Kelly Clark on his website, www.kellyclarkattorney.com.
Demand for the files was so great Thursday that the site crashed, but the files unavailable then were accessible Friday.
The files related to Sacramento-area cases include:
• Lawrence Stephen Jones, a Citrus Heights man arrested in 1985 along with two other Scout leaders who were accused of abusing boys and plotting to form a Sacramento-area chapter of the North American Man Boy Love Association.
• Curtis H. Knarich, a Travis Air Force Base sergeant accused of molesting boys in 1984. Knarich admitted molesting 13 boys, was dishonorably discharged, court-martialed and sentenced to 15 years hard labor, according to a newspaper clipping contained in his file.
• Edward George Silvius, a Davis Scout leader placed in the "confidential file" of suspected abusers after his arrest on seven counts of lewd behavior and other offenses involving minors, according to the file.
• Raymond L. Thomas, a Roseville sheet metal worker who was arrested in 1967 and sent to Atascadero State Hospital as a mentally disordered sex offender, according to the file. He was accused of molesting a 12-year-old boy.
• David Alden Miller, a Chico Scout leader arrested on charges of lewd conduct with four boys in 1967.
