Shakespeare's Globe at Mondavi Center

What: As the 10th anniversary of the Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts rolls on, here's a just-added event on the schedule. Shakespeare's Globe Theatre will bring the Bard's riveting drama "Hamlet" for two shows this week at Jackson Hall.

In case you've never seen a Globe production, the shows retool Elizabethan touring theater for the 21st century. Using stage design inspired by images from the time, the performers re-create the excitement and, in this case, drama of early theater. Featuring some of Shakespeare's best-known speeches, this pared-down production of "Hamlet" captures power and how it corrupts, as well as young love and the passion of a wronged man.

When: 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday; there also is a school matinee Friday. For details about the special children's show, visit

Where: Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts, UC Davis campus, 9399 Old Davis Road

Tickets: $35, $47 and $58 general admission; $17.50, $23.50 and $29 students, at and the Mondavi Center ticket office, (866) 754-2787.
