A light rain that chased the last trick-or-treaters home last night about 8:30 p.m. in Sacramento continued through the evening and into this morning.
National Weather Service forecasters predict that the cold front that brought the precipitation will continue to work its way across the interior of Northern California this morning, giving way to mostly sunny skies this afternoon.
Looking ahead to the weekend, forecasters say that Saturday and Sunday should be rain-free with temperatures in the 70s.
The detailed, 7-day forecast from the NWS for the Sacramento region:
Today: A 50 percent chance of showers, mainly before 8am. Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 70. Calm wind becoming west northwest around 6 mph in the afternoon. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
Tonight: Partly cloudy, with a low around 50. West northwest wind 3 to 8 mph.
Friday: Patchy fog before 11am. Otherwise, mostly sunny, with a high near 71. Calm wind becoming west northwest 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon.
Friday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 49. Northwest wind 3 to 6 mph.
Saturday: Patchy fog before 11am. Otherwise, sunny, with a high near 76. Calm wind becoming northwest around 5 mph in the afternoon.
Saturday night: Patchy fog after 11pm. Otherwise, mostly clear, with a low around 50.
Sunday: Patchy fog before 11am. Otherwise, sunny, with a high near 79.
Sunday night: Clear, with a low around 50.
Monday: Sunny, with a high near 81.
Monday night:Clear, with a low around 50.
Tuesday: Sunny, with a high near 78.
Tuesday night: Clear, with a low around 47.
Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 76.
