As daylight saving time ends Sunday, residents of the city of Sacramento are reminded to change their landscape watering schedules.
The city of Sacramento mandates that during winter months, residents and businesses may water outdoor landscaping only one day per week – on Saturday or Sunday at any convenient time.
The rules are a permanent conservation measure in the city of Sacramento and are not associated with a drought emergency. The goal is to conserve water and associated treatment and pumping costs during a season when landscapes typically need less water.
"With cooler temperatures and winter rains, even once-a-week watering may not be necessary," Michael Malone, field services manager at the city Utilities Department, said in a statement.
A first violation of the ordinance is subject to a warning notice; additional violations result in fines. For more information, go to www.sparesacwater.org, or call 311, the city information hotline, or the Utilities Department at (916) 808-5454.
