Re "Death penalty measure gaining" (Page A1, Nov. 2): Opponents of the death penalty have made it practically impossible to carry it out due to endless appeals. If the only appeal would be for new evidence, and it was carried out within three years, the death penalty would become a very effective deterrent.
Remember, it was abolished once before the last time Jerry Brown was governor, and then reinstated. Our prisons are already overcrowded. A better solution would be to Limit the appeals, not abolish the penalty.

• Don't repeat the same comment over and over. We heard you the first time.
• Do not use the commenting system for advertising. That's spam and it isn't allowed.
• Don't use all capital letters. That's akin to yelling and not appreciated by the audience.
• Don't flag other users' comments just because you don't agree with their point of view. Please only flag comments that violate these guidelines.
