Gold Mining To Begin in Sutter CreekLoading
  • RB Sutter Gold
Sutter Creek on Thursday, November 1, 2012. In a region known more these days for its hearty zinfandels than unearthing ore, Sutter Creek is returning to its heritage as crews are now boring into the underground walls of the famed Lincoln Mine. Resurrecting the heritage of a Mother Lode town that boomed some 160 years ago with historic mines, the Lincoln, Wildman, Northstar and Keystone, Sutter Gold Mining Co. is hoping to extract as much as 680,000 ounces of gold still left over from the California Gold Rush. The Sutter project represents the first underground gold mine operation in California's Gold Country in 50 years. And while the old Lincoln Mine was bankrolled by railroad baron Leland Stanford, Sutter Creek's new mining endeavor is being run by the like of Leanne Baker, a corporate CEO and former equities trader with a Ph.D in mineral economics.
