Koppen Zuma Rocks Shirt
$70; www.koppenoutdoor.com/products/view/ men-s-zuma-rocks-shirt-12629347.html
The new button-down shirt from Koppen may look kind of drab solid, primary color but it's a multi- user-friendly garment. Not only does the shirt serve as a shield against mosquitoes and other pests because it's made with permethrin bug repellant, it also boasts a UPF protection of 30-plus and is made of sweat-wicking, dry-release material. One note about the bug repellent: Koppen says it lasts only for about 70 washings. Fine for most men, who may never wash a shirt even 50 times.
"Closer to the Ground: An Outdoor Family's Year on the Water, in the Woods and at the Table," by Dylan Tomine
$29.95, Patagonia Books, 230 pages
Has the world been waiting for a combination parenting guide-slash-outdoors saga? We don't know about that, but Seattle-area writer Dylan Tomine has delivered a thoughtful and meaningful work about family bonding through salmon fishing, clam digging, hiking and camping. Interspersed are outdoor vignettes, such as an appreciation of the common crow.
Tomine will appear Friday at Avid Reader in Davis, 617 Second St. (530) 758-4040.
