Hundreds of Sacramentans got a rare view of
Sacramento’s past and future in the downtown
railyard as officials opened one of the seven massive Southern Pacific shop buildings for public
viewing during an open house Friday.
Plans call for two of
the shop buildings to become a railroad technology museum. The rest will be rejuvenated as
housing, offices and stores.
The open house also
introduced visitors to the new tracks, passenger
tunnels and Amtrak boarding platforms behind
the historic city depot at Fifth and I streets.
