Alliance fundraiser

What: The Down Syndrome Information Alliance is hosting a fundraising walk at William Land Park. Vendors will be on hand to sell items such as artwork and developmental toys. A picnic lunch will be provided.

Free vaccines

What: Anthem Blue Cross will offer free whooping cough vaccines to low- income children from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at the Boys and Girls Club on Lemon Hill Avenue. State law requires that students entering seventh through 12th grades must have a whooping cough (pertussis) vaccine booster. The shot clinic will be part of the 12th annual Healthy Kids Day event, which also features health screenings and information as well as speakers.

Cost: Free

Information: Parents should call (916) 808-3838 or (866) 850-4321 to schedule an appointment and must be present to complete consent forms and provide an official immunization card.

Arts celebration

What: Featuring 225 contemporary crafts people and fine artists, the Sacramento Arts Festival continues at the Sacramento Convention Center. More than 15,000 original works are being presented. The festival also features continuous live entertainment and a restaurant row.

When: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday

Cost: $8 general, $7 seniors, free for children 12 and younger.

Inspect insects

What: Insects are all over – there are more than 900,000 species in the world. Check out the invertebrates on posters, displays and as preserved specimens at the Discovery Museum Science and Space Center. There will be live insect presentations at noon and 2 p.m. each day.
