Kudos to: Keep Cordova Meadows Beautiful neighborhood group

Accomplishment: Ten neighbors have undertaken projects to improve their neighborhood

Details: So far, the group has installed a mural on a wall at Carousel School, cleaned up an adjacent vacant lot and planted trees.

Kudos to: Elaine Johnson and Jesse Edwards, heroes

Accomplishment: Honored for their actions by the California State Firefighters' Association

Details: Johnson, a second-grade teacher at Cameron Ranch Elementary, rescued two toddlers from a burning sport-utility vehicle in the school parking lot. Edwards kicked in the rear window of a burning car that had crashed into a Roseville building. His actions allowed two people to escape.

Kudos to: Kelly O'Hagan, volunteer at Bancroft Elementary School

Accomplishment: All manner of accomplishments at the College Greens school

Details: She has volunteered since her oldest child was a kindergarten student. She has looked after the school gardens even though her children are grown. The crowning jewel of her dedication to the school is said to be the Garden Club for students.

Kudos to: Capital Fellows program, California State University, Sacramento, endeavor that places college graduates in the state Legislature, executive branch and court system

Accomplishment: Named one of the nation's top 10 internship programs for the third straight year by

Details: Vault reviewed 836 programs, placing the Capital Fellows program on a list with companies such as J.P. Morgan's Investment Bank, Nickelodeon Animation Studios and Southwest Airlines.
