Money behind hundreds of uncashed checks from SMUD to customers reverts to the utility -- that is unless customers step forward.
Customers can check an online list of customers or vendors who have failed to cash checks. The list is at https://www.smud.org/en/about-smud/documents/unclaimed-checks-2012.pdf.
The checks are dated Oct. 1, 2009 or earlier and are made out to both individuals and companies.
The list of names will remain online until Dec. 26. SMUD posts the information each year in an effort to locate the money's rightful owner.
Claims against the uncashed checks should be filed on or before Dec. 27 at SMUD Unclaimed Monies, 6201 S St., Mail Stop B302, Sacramento, 95817-1899 or by calling (916) 732-7440.
Replacement checks will only be made out for those whose name is on the list. Checks not claimed become the property of the utility under state code, according to a SMUD press release.

You also may notify us via email at feedback@sacbee.com. Note the headline on which the comment is made and tell us the profile name of the user who made the comment. Remember, comment moderation is subjective. You may find some material objectionable that we won't and vice versa.
