The third fire traced to electrical problems in 30 days has prompted a suburban fire district to caution homeowners about doing electrical repairs themselves.
About 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District personnel were called to the 8100 block of Dunes Court, near Highway 99 and Calvine Road, where a garage was engulfed in flames. Crews stopped the fire from spreading into the home and also rescued the family dog and cat.
The residents of the home were away at the time of the fire. Arson investigators determined "the cause to be electrical in nature," according to a fire district news release.
In the past 30 days, a mobile home in Orangevale and a house in Fair Oaks were also heavily damaged by electrical fires.
"Metro Fire reminds residents to have electrical work repairs done by a professional, don't use extension cords for larger appliances, and, if you have any concern about an appliance, unplug it," stated the release.
