One of two Sacramento Zoo spotted hyenas is seen in 1995 after moving to the facility from UC Berkeley. The zoo's hyena, Brownie, died Monday night and a female companion died in 2006. Zoo officials said hyenas typically establish hierarchies, making it difficult to introduce new companions, so zoo keepers spent time socially interacting with Brownie over the last few years.
