Thanks to recent storms blowing in from the Gulf of Alaska and the use of snow-making equipment, Lake Tahoe area ski resorts are opening prior to Thanksgiving.
• Kirkwood Mountain Resort is opening Friday.
• Sugar Bowl opens Saturday.
• Squaw Valley opens Friday.
• Northstar opened today.
• Heavenly opened today.
• Boreal Mountain Resort already opened.
The Heavenly Lake Tahoe blog reported that lifts started turning this morning thanks to 18 inches of snow and the resort's snowmaking system. Here's the resort's blog report:
"As of 7 a.m., it is 36 degrees at mid-mountain and 29 up top with clear skies and light winds. The forecast calls for mostly sunny skies, light winds and temps in the mid-40s on the mountain. There's quite a bit of snow lining up in the forecast starting Thursday night, so do those snow dances!"
