Turkey drives in the region

Looking for places in the region to donate turkeys and canned food? Here's a roundup of places accepting items:

• Sacramento Food Bank holds its Fifth Annual Turkey Drive from 4:30 a.m.-7 p.m. today at 3333 Third Ave., Sacramento. If you can't drop off a turkey, you can donate $10 by texting SACFOOD to 20222.

• Davis Musical Theatre Co. and Yolo County Food Bank hold a food drive today at 607 Peña Drive, Davis. They are looking for tuna and canned meat, canned food, cereal, fruit juice, pasta, peanut butter, rice and shelf-stable juice. Bring four or more cans and receive a half-off ticket to see a performance of "A Christmas Carol."

• Sacramento County Sheriff's Activities League is seeking frozen turkey donations to hand out from 6-8 p.m. today at its "Friday Night Hoops" event at Dr. Ephraim Williams Family Life Center, 3996 14th Ave. in Oak Park. For more information, contact Deputy Cary Trzcinski at (916) 627-5606 or Charles Doss at (916) 737-7064.

• Volunteers of America is holding a turkey and canned goods drive through Sunday. It is accepting donations of turkey, stuffing mix, potatoes, cranberry sauce, canned gravy, rolls, frozen or canned vegetables and other holiday recipe ingredients. Donations are accepted from 7 a.m.-6 p.m. daily at 700 N. Fifth St., Sacramento, or 3587 Bleckely St., Mather.

• Pour House will hold its turkey drive from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at 1910 Q St., Sacramento. The restaurant will give a coupon for a $1 draft beer or well cocktail and half off an appetizer to everyone who donates a turkey.

• Cordova Community Food Locker is looking for 1,000 turkeys, trimmings and canned food for its Thankgiving Giveaway on Monday. Donations may be made 9 a.m.-1 p.m. today and noon-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at 10497 Coloma Road, Rancho Cordova.

• Elk Grove Food Bank Services holds its annual turkey drive through Monday at 9820 Dine Drive, Suite 140, Elk Grove. Donate frozen turkeys, chicken or any nonperishable side dish or canned food.

• The Salvation Army is accepting turkeys for its free Thanksgiving dinner through Thursday. Donations may be made between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays at 1200 N. B St., Sacramento.

• Loaves & Fishes is accepting donations for its Thanksgiving meals. It is looking for 300 turkeys, 400 baked pies, cranberry sauce, large oven turkey bags, yams, marshmallows, string beans, potatoes, bacon, apple juice, dinner rolls, butter pats, dry dressing mix, onions, celery, sage seasoning, whipping cream and 2,000 pairs of new socks.
