Re "Peace is the only solution" (Letters, Nov. 19): For years the people of southern Israel have been subjected to rocket attacks coming from Gaza. Thousands of rockets have fallen since the so-called ceasefire four years ago. Since the last war with Gaza, Hamas has increased its arsenal so missiles now reach Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.
No country in the world would allow its citizens to be subjected to this. Israel's military response is long overdue. There will be civilian casualties in Gaza, but what do you expect when Hamas fires rockets from residential areas, including schools and mosques. Hamas is a terrorist organization that is sworn to destroy Israel. Compromise is not part of their lexicon.
To those who criticize Israel for defending herself, what would you do if your country was attacked and a million people were forced into bomb shelters? Appeasement is not an option!

• Don't use all capital letters. That's akin to yelling and not appreciated by the audience.
• Don't flag other users' comments just because you don't agree with their point of view. Please only flag comments that violate these guidelines.
