Kudos to: Sacramento County Probation Department, county supervisors and executive office

Accomplishment: Donated $6,000 to buy hundreds of turkeys for the needy

Details: Probation employees raised $3,075. County supervisors and the county executive's office chipped in the rest to buy turkeys for Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services, Bethany Presbyterian Church, Liberty Towers Church, Orangevale Food Bank and Rancho Cordova Community Food Locker.

Kudos to: VSP Vision Care

Accomplishment: Provided recovery relief for people who had their glasses lost or damaged in superstorm Sandy

Details: VSP sent two mobile eyecare clinics to New York and New Jersey. Each is outfitted with an exam room, eyewear frame dispensary and lab to make glasses on site. The Rancho Cordova insurer also donated gift certificates to the Red Cross, redeemable for eye exams and eyewear.

Kudos to: Alexander Gonzalez, president of Sacramento State

Accomplishment: Awarded Ohtli Award, the Mexican government's highest honor for leaders of Mexican descent

Details: Ohtli is a Nahuatl/Aztec word meaning "path." The award recognizes the Sacramento State leader's efforts to pave the path and improve the well-being of new generations of Mexicans in California. Next year, Gonzalez will mark 10 years as Sacramento State's president.
