Two people died Sunday night in a fire that destroyed an old house in Pilot Hill.
The fire was reported at 4531 Salmon Falls Road at about 6 p.m. An El Dorado County Fire District engine from Cool responded in seven minutes to the single-family home engulfed in fire.
Firefighters tried to enter the home but could not because of the flames. Neighbors told them that two people were inside the home, which investigators said was about a century old.
Just after 9 p.m., firefighters were able to find two victims, said Battalion Chief Mike Pott, spokesman for the fire district. A husband and wife were said to live in the home.
Their names were not released, pending an autopsy. An investigation has begun to determine the cause of the blaze.
