The Sacramento County Sheriff's Department recently has increased its social media presence on Twitter and Facebook as part of its community outreach efforts.
A few months ago, the agency joined Facebook, and this month joined Twitter.
Officials are using the accounts to distribute news releases, as well as to publicize surveillance videos that show people committing crimes, said sheriff's Sgt. Jason Ramos.
Crimes should not be reported using either social media site, officials said.
Emergencies should be reported to 911, and non- urgent matters should be reported by calling sheriff's dispatch at (916) 874-5115.
