Sacramento State's Kylie Kuhns grabbed 12 rebounds Tuesday at home in a 74-52 victory over Utah Valley to become the Hornets' all-time leading rebounder.
Kuhns' 10th rebound, an offensive board with 14:39 remaining in the second half, pushed her to a school-record 932 rebounds. The senior from Salem, Ore., topped Heidi Carroll's 931 career rebounds set in 1986. Kuhns grabbed 211 rebounds as a freshman, 321 as a sophomore and 360 last season as a junior. Kuhns has 42 rebounds this season as the Hornets evened their record to 2-2.
She is on pace to become just the fifth player in Big Sky Conference history to reach 1,000 career rebounds and needs 240 more this season to match the league record of 1,174 rebounds, set by Idaho State's Natalie Doma.
Last season, Kuhns became the 10th player in Sac State history to reach 1,000 career points.
Dixon reaches 1,000 Sac State senior forward and team captain John Dickson scored 18 points in Tuesday's 87-76 loss to UC Davis, becoming just the 10th player in school history to reach the career 1,000 point plateau.
Dickson, a fourth-year senior, now has 1,009 points and became the fifth player to reach the mark in the program's NCAA Division I era that stretches back to 1991.
UC Davis
UC Davis' men's basketball team won is first game of the season Tuesday at Sac State, improving its record to 1-3.
The victory over the previously unbeaten Hornets gives Les hope that the Aggies are heading in the right direction after an 0-3 start.
"We are making some strides," Les said. "Hopefully we can use this win as a springboard. I'd like to think they were looking past us. We were on the road in a loud building. But we imposed our will on them at their place."
The Aggies certainly imposed their will on the boards at The Nest, outrebounding their hosts 45-31. In each of the first three games, UC Davis has grabbed more rebounds than their opponents.
"We started playing physical, active defense in the second half," Les said. "We did a good job on the defensive boards and got out into transition which leads to good offense."
Women hit road UC Davis' women's basketball team is 0-2 for the first time since 2006-07.
The Aggies play in Houston tonight against Navy and Saturday against host Houston Baptist in the Husky Classic.
The Aggies face both teams for the first time in program history. Navy won its second consecutive Patriot League Tournament championship last season to advance to the NCAA Tournament and return four starters.
Houston Baptist is 2-3 coming into its tournament.
