Creighton Sanders, a fixture on Sacramento television as a sportscaster for more than 30 years, died Sunday, according to former KCRA anchor Walt Gray. Sanders was 85.

"He had private phone numbers for Joe DiMaggio, Willie Mays and Joe Montana," Gray said. "Nobody had that kind of access."

Sanders became the first full-time sports reporter at KXTV (Channel 10) when he was hired in 1960. Sanders left KXTV to join rival KCRA (Channel 3) in 1980, where he worked alongside other well-known Sacramento TV personalities Stan Atkinson and Bette Vasquez.

Sanders retired from KCRA in 1992.
