Sacramento-area gas prices fell another 3.4 cents over the past week, according to the latest weekly report by national gas price tracker GasBuddy.com.
GasBuddy put the local average at $3.56 a gallon, a level last seen in early July.
The current at-the-pump price is 49.1 cents per gallon lower than one month ago, when motorists were still suffering amid price spikes blamed on a series of in-state refinery disruptions.
The current price is also 4.7 cents lower than it was one year ago.
Nationally, GasBuddy said, the average price of gas was unchanged at $3.43 a gallon 14.1 cents lower than last month but 11 cents higher than a year ago.
Patrick DeHaan, GasBuddy's senior petroleum analyst, does not expect much price movement nationwide throughout the holiday season.
"Thanksgiving Day 2012 featured the highest-ever daily average for the holiday, beating out 2011 by over 10 cents per gallon," he said. "The national average may continue to moderate slightly by Christmas but overall, there will likely not be much change between today and Christmas."
