John Dickson scored a career-high 29 points on 10-of-15 shooting, helping Sacramento State match the best six-game start in school history by beating visiting Dominican 77-68 Tuesday night.
Dickson, a senior, hit two three-pointers and made all seven of his free throws.
Dylan Garrity scored 16 points for the Hornets (5-1), who were tied with the Division II Penguins (2-3) after a Matt Hayes layup with 4:42 to play.
But a 10-0 Sac State run, capped by a three-point play with a minute left by former Placer High School standout Konner Veteto that put the game away.
The Hornets improved to 5-0 all-time against the Penguins; the last meeting between the schools came in 2003.
Sac State will try for the first 6-1 start in school history when it visits Arizona State on Saturday.
