Re "Tragedy bands Chiefs together" (Sports, Dec. 3): I was enjoying the Sunday night football game between the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles when, at half time, Bob Costas trotted out the stereotypic liberal perspective that no one is responsible for his own conduct. Regarding the tragedy of the Kansas City Chiefs player who killed his girlfriend and committed suicide, leaving his three-month old child parentless, Costas blamed the "gun culture." Huh?
Apparently, Costas forgot the homicide/suicide in Casper, Wyoming, obviously due to the "knife/bow-and-arrow" culture. Accordingly to it-is-society's-fault thinkers, a driver with five DUIs who finally kills someone is not responsible, it is that nasty "car culture." What happened to personal responsibility?
The Chiefs player was deranged, pure and simple. Anyway, I ended up not yelling for my preferred team, but at Costas, to the dismay of my cat (but the "cat culture" made me do it).
