The California Highway Patrol in Truckee is investigating a single-vehicle accident near Tahoe City that took the life of a Tahoe City woman and injured another.
The accident occurred on Highway 89, north of Fairway Drive, at 7:40 a.m. Nov. 26.
According to the CHP report, Luliana Leonte, 25, was driving a Jeep northbound on Highway 89 at approximately 40 to 45 mph when she lost control of the vehicle on a sweeping right turn in the roadway.
The Jeep swerved to the left, crossed both lanes and overturned, striking two pine trees bordering the opposite side of the road.
Andreea Enache, 25, a front-seat passenger in the Jeep, received fatal injuries in the crash.
Leonte, the driver, was taken to Tahoe Forest Hospital with major injuries. The hospital would not release her status Monday.
The women, both Romanian citizens, had lived in Tahoe City for four years and worked at the Village at Squaw Valley, CHP Officer Pete Mann said.
