Groups seek holiday donations

Here are some area businesses and nonprofit groups seeking donations for the holidays:

• Salvation Army and Wal-Mart host a "Fill the Truck" Toy Drive benefiting needy children from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at Walmarts in the region.

• Placer County Vintners Association presents "Holidays in the Hills" with a toy drive benefiting Marine Toys for Tots Foundation and wine tasting at 17 wineries in Auburn, Lincoln and Loomis from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and Sunday. For more information, go to www.placerwine.com/events.htm.

• Donate new toys, gifts, school supplies, apparel and nonperishable food for local families from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Citrus Town Center, Greenback Lane and Sunrise Boulevard, Citrus Heights. Sponsored by Citrus Heights Police Department, city of Citrus Heights and Citrus Town Center.

• Residence Inn Natomas hosts a reopening and ribbon-cutting ceremony with a toy drive benefiting Sutter Children's Center from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at 2410 W. El Camino Ave., Sacramento.

• Green Acres Nursery & Supply holds a toy drive benefiting Never Forget our Fallen Toy Drive for Military Children. Donate new, unwrapped toys through Dec. 23 to any Green Acres Nursery & Supply, 901 Galleria Blvd., Roseville; 8501 Jackson Road, Sacramento; and 205 Serpa Way, Folsom.

• Green Acres Nursery & Supply is donating Christmas trees to families of deployed military members at its three locations: 901 Galleria Blvd., Roseville; 8501 Jackson Road, Sacramento; and 205 Serpa Way, Folsom. An immediate family of a deployed military member must bring deployment papers and military ID to receive a complimentary Noble fir and two 4-inch poinsettias or one 6-inch poinsettia.

• Help combat hunger through Raley's Food for Families campaign. Donate at any Raley's, Bel Air or Food Source store through Dec. 31.

• Dollar Tree and Operation Homefront, a national nonprofit organization that provides emergency assistance to military families, holds a toy drive for their children. Donate new, unwrapped toys at any Dollar Tree store.

• Donations for gently used blankets, coats, sweaters, jeans, tarps and small tents are needed for the homeless. Items may be dropped off from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at 2131 K St.

• California Highway Patrol holds a CHiPs for Kids toy and food drive from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 15 at Save Mart, 1399 Deerfield Drive, Truckee.

• The California State University, Sacramento, University Union offers a "Wish Upon A Star" gift drive for needy children through Friday at 6000 J St., Sacramento. Choose a star with a child's name on it, purchase the desired item on the back and return the unwrapped gift by Friday.

• As part of the 12 Days of Midtown holiday campaign, a Charity Toy Drive Contest and "Stuff the Stocking" benefiting the Salvation Army will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, at restaurants in the Sutter District, including: Barwest, 2724 J St.; Blue Clue, 1004 28th St.; Centro Cocina Mexicana, 2730 J St.; Harlow's, 2708 J St.; INK Eats & Drinks, 2730 N St.; Monkey Bar, 2730 Capitol Ave.; Paragary's Bar & Oven, 1401 28th St.; and The Red Rabbit Kitchen and Bar, 2718 J St. The toy drive will be a contest among the dining establishments to see who can collect the most toys. Patrons who bring new, unwrapped toys receive a $5 cocktail at the restaurant.

• Contractors Caring for Kids holds its 17th Annual Toy Drive and Fundraiser from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at Orangevale Community Center, 6826 Hazel Ave.
