UC Davis Chancellor Emeritus Larry Vanderhoef is being treated at UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento after suffering a stroke over the weekend, campus officials said Tuesday.

Vanderhoef, who was UC Davis' chancellor from 1994 to 2009, was stricken with an ischemic stroke, which occurs when an artery to the brain is blocked.

He was taken to Sutter Davis Hospital for emergency care, officials said.

He was transferred Monday to UC Davis Medical Center to continue rehabilitative treatment there, according to officials.

In a statement, Vanderhoef said he was thankful for his care and was "determined to bounce back quicker than quick."
